The 8-Step Guide to Space Sharing

You’re probably familiar with the term space sharing by now, or, in the least, you’ve heard it. If you haven’t, then don’t worry—you’re still in the right place! This blog might be more helpful for you though.

Alright, so maybe you do know about space sharing, but you don’t know the first thing about getting started—that’s okay! The process is far easier than you might think, and we are going to walk you through it with our 8-step guide to space sharing.

The Eight Steps of Space Sharing

1. Acknowledge your space. This is the easiest step because it’s really just you looking at whatever space you have and deciding whether or not you want to share it with a small business, professional, or organization!

2. Assess your space. This one goes just a step further. You’ll want to figure out how much you think your space is worth depending on the size of it, whether or not it’s furnished, the location, the type of space, etc. This prompts thought as to how you’ll advertise your space and the financial opportunity.

3. Sign up at SpaceTogether and create a profile. On the site, you can get a better understanding of how people use the site. We know how confusing it can be when you first start sharing space, so this is a good time to explore and browse the site, checking through all of our different blogs

4. Make that profile shine. That’s right, you’re going to polish it up. This is where you want to make sure your descriptions are on point and your pictures are aesthetic. These blogs are excellent resources for helping you write a more comprehensive posting and provide awesome photos!

5. Wait for the renter to come to you and apply. A high number of people are browsing the site looking for a space just like yours, so this step is all about you waiting patiently for them to find your awesome space.

You can also find renters on our your own and send them the link to your space on SpaceTogether, and we will check their identity, and provide secure payment processing for you. To do that, just click on "My Spaces", then click "View", and find "Share" at the top. Once you click it you will have the link to send them directly to your space!

6. Once you have found a great renter for your space, you’ll set up either a contract or guidelines for them to follow. These can be formal and in a contract, or they can be as simple as house rules. This is where you will outline your expectations for how your space will be maintained.
